8 ways to ditch the plastic

1

BUY FOOD WITHOUT PACKAGING

Get creative! Check out local farmers markets, not only will you be supporting local, your food will be fresher than ever!

 2

BUY IN BULK

One of our favourite ways to shop is in bulk at our local Bulk Barn. We bring our reusable containers and stock up on all of our pantry necessities; everything from beans, lentils & oats, to peanut butter & spices!

3

GROW A GARDEN

Your own backyard is the perfect spot to source fresh food - start up a garden with your cooking favourites! Have an apartment? Check out "balcony garden" for some inspo! Or, lend a hand in your own community garden.

4

REUSABLE TAKE-OUT CONTAINERS

Going out? Bring your own reusable containers for leftovers in a glass jar

5

DITCH THE STRAW

5500 million straws are thrown away every day in the US. These short-lived tools are usually dropped into a garbage can with no further thought, instantly becoming a source of plastic pollution. They are polluting our seas, and harming our precious marine animals. Even if they do make it to the dump, they take over 200 million years to biodegrade. Invest in reusable option such as a glass, bamboo, or metal straw.

Pro tip: Keep one in your car, or in your purse if you're on the go!

6

SAY GOODBYE TO PLASTIC WRAP

Switch out plastic wrap for a Labeille beeswax food wrap – these wraps will last you well over a year and are washable. Use your wraps to cover a bowl, or store fresh bread, cheese, fruits, veggies and baked goods

The earth will thank you!

7

SKIP THE GROCERY BAG

This is the easiest switch to make when going plastic free. Reusable bags are compact and can fit right into your purse, or be kept in the trunk for all of your grocery hauls and shopping trips. Plastic bags in particular, are often mistaken as jellyfish, and turtles end up mistaking it for food

8

REUSABLE WATER BOTTLES

Invest in reusable water bottles and ditch the BPA, chemical filled plastic water bottles.
